Our Story

The First Knit of
a Success Story

On 13th August 1991, A. P. S. Knitters (Private) Limited officially entered Sri Lanka's fabric manufacturing industry — with an iron will for success and perfection. Just as individual threads are knitted together to form a length of fabric, our team of over 350 employees are brought together to create high-quality knitted fabric, elevating APS as "The Pioneer of Fabric Manufacturing in Sri Lanka."

Primarily targeting the local industry, we grew and expanded, establishing subsidiary companies to deliver better and quicker solutions for our valued clientele. Today we march forward with a new goal — ethical trading, eco-friendly methods, and producing yarn at our own backyard while adhering to ISO standards.

Behind The Scenes

Our People, Our Process

A look inside our factories — from yarn cones and circular knitting machines to finished fabric being prepared for despatch.

Fabric Making Process

From Raw Cotton to Finished Fabric

Our eight-step fabric manufacturing process takes raw cotton through a rigorous transformation — delivering superior comfort, lustre, and durability in every metre of finished fabric.

01
Cleaning
Raw cotton is beaten and fluffed to remove vegetable matter and impurities before processing begins.
02
Carding
Fibres are split and re-assembled into a loose string (sliver or tow) — aligning them for the next stage.
03
Combing
Optional but used to remove shorter fibres, creating a finer, stronger and more consistent yarn.
04
Straightening
Several fibre lines are combined to achieve consistent size and shape — reducing thickness variation.
05
Yarn Spinning
After spinning, checking, folding and twisting, yarn is ready to manufacture fabric — the birth of comfort.
06
Knitting
Using circular knitting methods, we weave and knit great materials — jersey, interlock, pique, rib and lace.
07
Finishing
De-sizing, scouring, bleaching, mercerising, singeing, and dyeing — seven finishing steps for the perfect fabric.
08
Distribution
Finished, packed and labelled fabric dispatched from our Maharagama and Mattakkuliya stores to clients.
Dyeing Process
6,500 kg
Daily Dyeing Capacity

Fabric is uploaded to the dyeing machine, colourised across the entire length, then taken to the drying process where maximum hydro is extracted — leaving the desired colour bonded to the fabric molecules.

Dyeing & Finishing Steps
  • Fabric upload to dyeing machine
  • Colourising — washing with chosen colour
  • Hydro extraction — maximum moisture removal
  • Drying process — colour bond set
  • Heat setting & compacting
  • Final inspection & QC
